Work Injuries
There are various physical stresses that are imposed on the body during the course of a work day.
Work related injuries range from repetitive motions to postural strains to sudden trauma.
Repetitive activities such as grasping or moving objects, typing, use of heavy or vibrating tools, and lifting can all damage the over utilized tissues and create pain and loss of function.
Physical therapy can help to reduce time lost from work and aid in determining changes in the work environment that may contribute to the prevention of future difficulties.
The physical therapist will design an individualized return to work treatment plan. Treatment often includes pain relieving modalities, postural and body mechanics training, neuromuscular reeducation, strength/endurance training, and ergonomics advice for workstation modification.
The goals of the return to work program include decreasing pain, restoring function, and helping to prevent future recurrences.
