Sports Injuries

Sports injuries range in severity from a minor muscle strain to a painful broken bone or torn ligament.

Depending on the type of sport, an athlete may develop chronic overuse syndromes of tendons, muscles, nerves, and stress fractures of bones. Athletes may also receive a sudden traumatic injury such as a ligament or cartilage tear.

Physical therapy treatment for sport injuries include pain relieving modalities, manual joint mobilizations and soft tissue treatments such as ASTYM (augmented soft tissue mobilizations), neuromuscular electric stimulation, sport specific strength/stretch/endurance exercises, correction of poor form, and bracing/taping.

The goals of physical therapy treatment for sports injuries are to reduce pain, restore function, improve performance, and get the athlete back to their sport without recurrence.
