Back Pain
Eighty percent of the population report back pain at some point in their lifetime.
Acute back pain generally last from a few days to a few weeks and is either mechanical (movement related) or chemical (inflammatory) in nature. It can be result of trauma or injury from sports, work, daily activities, an external force from a motor vehicle accident or any stress applied to the nerves, joints, discs, ligaments, muscles, and bones.
Typically symptoms range from a muscle ache to a shooting pain which may radiate down the leg. There is usually a loss of range of motion or flexibility. Change in tissue tension and altered posture may also be factors.
Chronic lower back pain is categorized by pain that is present more than 3 months.
Studies support manual therapies for short term relief of lower back pain and specific muscle reeducation programs to prevent chronic symptoms and restore full function.
